Dogs are also domesticated animals that have been raised over a long period by humans as companion and also referred to as man’s best friend. It is believed that dogs have been the first animals to be bred by people over long period. Universally, dogs are born in different colors, and as they grow they possess different shape and size, however, these dogs perform roles which are common to all dogs, these include, providing security, pulling loads, hunting and herding. In addition, some dogs have been trained to perform some specialized roles, including providing military companionship, assisting the physically disabled people as well as offering therapeutic duties. The most common types of dogs include, guard dogs, working dogs, hunting dogs, companion dogs, and herding dogs.
The most basic command that every dog owner needs to teach his/her dog include the sit, come, down, stay, and leave it command. Out of the five basic commands, the sit command is regarded as the simplest command to dog training, and also it is viewed as an act of dog`s` respect to the owner. When training the sit command, the dog owner need to follow the following steps, these include, holding a treat close to the dog’s nose, this is followed by moving the hand upward and allowing the dog`s head to trail the treat and causing its back to move downwards, once the dog is in a sitting position, the instructor needs to say sit. Siting command should not only be implemented when the dog is about to take a meal, but also when leaving for walks, and during situations that the owner would like the dog to calm and seated.
On the other hand, the down command is considered to a difficult command in dog training obedience since it is a submissive position, however, the trainer need to find a good smelling food for the dog and hold it closed in his hand, then he need to hold the hand up to the dog`s nose and when the dog sniffs the food, the instructor needs to move his hand to the floor so that the dog follow, once the dog`s` head is on the floor, one needs to slide their hand along the ground in front of the dog so as to encourage the dog`s` body to move forward and follow its head, once the dog is in a down position, the owner need to say down and the give the dog the food.
The stay command should be initiated when a dog has perfectly learned the sit command, these steps involved in the stay command include, asking the dog to sit, this is followed by opening palm of their hand in front of the dog and then say stay, then take a few steps back and give the dog food if it stays. Moreover, the leaving command is considered useful since it can protect the dog when it is too curious and if it smells something that may have dangerous effects on its health.
